Project history
This large-scale complex in the heart of Montreal’s business district was divided into several phases, with the entire project jointly managed by QMD and the Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ.
The new building features a mechanical penthouse, industrial elevator, 16'6" slab-to-slab ceilings, two dedicated generators on each floor, 24/7 security and state-of-the-art computer cabling.

Certain elements of this project involved an aspect of cultural heritage preservation. As the existing 4-storey building had to be preserved, QMD began by decontaminating it before moving on to the renovation and creating office spaces for the data center. The project also involved delivering new modern constructions that suggest the earliest data entry forms.

Challenges
  • Build a 10-storey concrete structure in the heart of Montreal.
  • Preserve and decontaminate a 4-storey heritage building.
  • Construct a louvered building envelope to accommodate the data center.
  • Complete the project on time in a densely populated area.
  • Piling and foundation work in the area adjacent to St. Jacques Street and the Ville-Marie Tunnel.
